The International Research Conference on Smart Computing and Systems Engineering organized by the Department of Industrial Management, Faculty of Science, University of Kelaniya provides a distinguished platform for academia to present their research within their respective fields of interest. The papers published in the SCSE 2019 - SCSE 2024 conferences are indexed in Scopus and available in the IEEE Xplore Digital Library: SCSE proceedings. The accepted papers of SCSE 2025 will be indexed in Scopus and submitted for inclusion into IEEE Xplore, subject to meeting IEEE Xplore’s scope and quality requirements.
The inauguration ceremony of the 8th International Research Conference on Smart Computing and Systems Engineering - 2025 organized by the Department of Industrial Management was held on April 03, 2025. The conference was graced by the presence of Senior Professor Nilanthi De Silva, Vice Chancellor of the University of Kelaniya, as the Chief Guest, while Senior Professor Koliya Pulasinghe, Professor in Information Technology, Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT), attended as the Keynote Speaker of the conference. Other distinguished guests included Senior Professor Sudath Kalingamudali, Dean of the Faculty of Science; Prof. Sachith Mettananda, Chairman, Research Council; Professor Janaka Wijayanayake, Head of the Department of Industrial Management; Mr. Dinesh Asanka, the Conference Chair; and Dr. S. Angalaesvari, from Vellore Institute of Technology, Chennai, India, alongside other SCSE 2025 committee members.
SCSE 2025 received an overwhelming response, with 453 full paper submissions from researchers representing countries such as Australia, the United Kingdom, Japan, India, etc. The paper selection process was highly competitive, resulting in an acceptance rate of 28%. There were twenty-one technical sessions after the inaugural ceremony to present papers in seven technical tracks:

Industrial Engineering and Management and
Health Informatics.
The interested fields of study include (but are not limited to) data science and analytics, business intelligence, machine learning, process automation, language models and natural language processing, image and video analytics, internet of things, cloud computing, multi-agent systems, agent-based modelling and simulation, blockchains, industrial and systems engineering, business process engineering and optimization, digital transformation, digital innovation, financial and marketing technology, etc. SCSE 2025 manuscripts were aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) outlined by the United Nations.
In conjunction with SCSE 2025, the Department of Industrial Management, Faculty of Science at the University of Kelaniya, conducted two pre-conference workshops and an academic forum between March 26 and 28, 2025.
Mr. K. Karthikeyan conducted the "Smart Building: Paradigm of Digitalization" workshop for university students. Mr. Dinesh Asanka and Dr. Thilini Mahanama also conducted a workshop on "Revolutionising Literature Reviews: Harnessing AI for Advanced Research" for final-year university students. These workshops witnessed active participation from university academics, data analysts, corporate executives, graduates and undergraduates, providing valuable insights into the respective topics. Moreover, the academics at the University of Kelaniya joined the academic forum titled "Shaping the Future of Academia with GenAI: Insights and Considerations" which focused on leveraging AI for innovative and design education.
The 8th International Research Conference on Smart Computing and Systems Engineering (SCSE 2025) served as a vital platform for knowledge exchange and exploration of advancements in smart computing and systems engineering. With presentations aligned with the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, SCSE 2025 paves the way for future research that contributes to a more sustainable and technologically advanced world.
